How to climb into someone’s skin-a lesson in empathy

November 6, 2018January 6, 2021Leave a comment

I sat in a chair like everyone else in the circle, but was different than everyone else.  They shared their stories and I listened because there was nothing for me to say.  They all connected.  I was the outcast. It was about 8 years ago, and a friend had invited me to sit in on … Continue reading How to climb into someone’s skin-a lesson in empathy

The best thing you can teach your child

My daughter shared with some friends we had for dinner about the cupcake business she and her best friend started.  A week earlier, they had set up a stand in front of the house and had made a small fortune (to them) selling the cupcakes.  Our friends, wanting to encourage my daughter’s entrepreneurial spirit, said … Continue reading The best thing you can teach your child

Thriving when life stinks.

We are all creators. Some of us just need to be given permission to create because somewhere down the line we’ve believed the lie that we are not “creative”. If you are an artist or maker, consider extending the invitation to someone (who otherwise might be intimidated by the arts) to create with you. Some of my sweetest moments have been spent “making” with others 😊
Loved my time this weekend at Hutchmoot UK as we explored, and I reflected on, the relationship between the arts and Christian faith. Among many other life-giving sessions, I sat in on a live recording of @faithinthearts podcast, listened to music from an array of talented artists including London’s own @matshidisomusic , and took a workshop on choreography by @iammarlitahill that really pushed me out of my comfort zone (no footage for that one 😆). More than anything, though, it was the informal conversations had with so many beautiful people that will draw me back to this space. Follow @therabbitroom to keep up to date on future events and next year’s conference already slotted for 9-12 May 2024 🙌
